Okay, first things first… enjoy the blurb:

Natalie lives a traditional lifestyle – and her followers are sick with envy. A test from God? Natalie knows just two things for sure: this isn’t her perfect life, and she must escape, by any means possible.

Full disclosure, when I bought this book all I had heard for the most part is that a lot of people had a lot of very different feelings about it. And FOMO is what made me read it.

But, I will say that probably because I went in without previous knowledge may be what helped me like the book. Is it the best thing since sliced bread? No. Was it entertaining? Yup! Did it make me think? Also, yes.

There were times in the book that made me uncomfortable. There were times that the book made me rage. There were times that made me almost feel bad for Nataly, only for her to quickly show me that that was NOT the vibe. There was commentary that seems that it was geared to the Right… and the Left. I think the book showed how a lot of influencers end up caring more about how they are seen vs what is actually being done. This book showed us that sometimes people are willing to sell themselves to get ahead. Add in the fact that people are so easily discarded once they are no longer valuable was interesting.

Seeing how she handles being in the past was also interesting because of how raw a lot of that time was for her. All of the things that she said she based her values on were no longer as exciting once she was living the life that she preached about and encouraged others to envy. I think that was what made this a hard read for me because I have been on the fringes of those circles, I have seen what people will do to seen. And I have seen just how easily you can be discarded once you are no longer valuable- both online and in a social circle.
