I was lucky enough to get to read Kindred Spirits by Nia P. early and y’all! This book is fantastic. Here is the official blurb:
Florence Bell is many things: free-spirited, confident, a successful nail artist, a disappointment to her parents, and a powerful witch according to her grandmother. Due to a series of opinions telling her who she should be in life, she decides to live boldly and become a skeptic of love and magic. Honestly, if the two truly existed they would have found her by now, and life would be a lot less complicated.
Yet, she can’t deny she has no dreams, only the taste of florals on her tongue as she wakes each morning. But a witch shouldn’t be this empty, she must wish and be full of dreams. Convinced to get back what she once lost, and to see if magic will appear when she least expects it, Florence performs an ancient ritual using a stolen grimoire. However, fate gave Florence two gifts, magic she has no control over and a soulmate she can’t get rid of, and when she least expects it, she then learns she’s a Love Witch, and of course this must be a cruel joke from the universe itself.
Magic doesn’t make mistakes, it makes good on promises. Florence’s dreams are lessons and hints to help her break her hopeless patterns of uncertainty. She must listen well; a Love Witch is meant to receive and give love, and not create a curse for heartbreak that will ultimately lead her to stand in the way of her own happiness.
Here’s my favorite part of this book… this was about so, so much more than just romantic love. This book is about loving yourself, where you are & not trying to be what other people want you to be when it gets in the way of your own dreams. It’s about appreciating the people who do love you and that are right there rooting for you. It’s showing that love is about so much more than just pretty words.
I’ll be honest that the very next day I cleaned my bedroom and alter.
